Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
